Zero-Day Attacks

A zero-day attack is a type of cyber-attack that exploits a vulnerability in software that the developers are not yet aware of. Attackers can then upload additional malware into the affected software, such as spyware or ransomware.

The software is then available for until a way to protect the infected spot is found. Therefore, the user must wait for an update or system patch to be released. In the meantime, it remains in the default or zero-day state (hence the name, zero-day attack).
