Data Ingestion

Data ingestion is loading data from one or more sources to a target location for further processing. The data ingestion process may also be in real-time or in batches at various intervals. In some cases, a combination of both methods is used.

One typical use case of data ingestion is transferring data from servers, data warehouses, or local storage to cloud-based analytic software, such as Amazon Redshift, Hadoop, or Cloudera. This is also known as work with so-called big data.
